Rare and wonderful, 1891 Autograph Letter Signed by future American President William McKinley written as the Chairman of the Committee of Ways and Means of the U.S. House of Representatives. This fully manuscript letter measures approx. 7 3/4†x 10†and is dated January 10th, 1891. The letter is addressed to “H. Birney Esq." and is written on the Committee on Ways and Means stationary. The letter reads “Dear Sir, / I am in receipt of your esteemed favor of the 7th inst. inviting me to deliver an address before your college on June 23rd next, and beg to thank you for the same. Owing, however, to the uncertainty of my plans I am unable at this time to make any engagements. It would afford me much pleasure to be with you and if later on I find it is possible will gladly advise you. I fear though it will not be possible for me to come. Again thanking you and extending best wishes / I am / Yours Sincerely, W. McKinley Jr.". The letter is boldly signed in brown ink and is written entirely in the hand of the future President. This wonderful Autograph Letter Signed from the pen of William McKinley is in very condition - the ink signature and text is strong and bold and the signature is rated a "9" by the accompanying PSA/DNA Letter of Authenticity. There are folds in the sheet as sent in an envelope - the folds are stronger on the reverse than on the obverse.
