Isaac Jones Wistar,1827-1905.He was comissioned Lt.Colonel of the "California Regiment"the 71st.Pennsylvania Infantry,June 28,1861 at its oganization and was promoted it's Colonel on Nov.11,1861.Early in the battle of Ball's Bluff on Oct.21,1861,he was struck in the jaw.Later a bullet passed through his thigh,close to an old arrow wound,only a flesh wound,it filled hi boot with blood and he had to cut a hole in his boot to let the blood out.He was made BrigidierGeneral of Volunteers on Nov.29,1862.He established the Wistar Institute of Anatomy and Biology in Philadelphia in 1892 with gifts of one million dollars.
