1920's Arts & Crafts Mission Wire Mesh Lamp Shade Arts & Crafts REMBRANDT Floor Lamp Wire Mesh Shade click picture to enlarge 1920's Arts & Crafts Mission Wire Mesh Floor Lamp Shade. This wonderful Arts & Craft Mission lamp shade measures 20 1/2" across the bottom, 9" in heigth, 11" at the opening at the top. Although this lamp shade is not signed this looks like a Rembrandt, as Rembrandt Lamp Co. was noted for making beautiful wire mesh shades. This vintage shade has eight panels, each panel decorated with a pair of GRIFFINS with a scroll and Crest design in the background. The original paint is excellent condition, usually these shades are faded due to sunlight. The colors are of soft cream, green, brown, yellow and gold. There are some minor specks of rust but no holes. The soldered brass framing has an original aged patina and is in excellent condition, no breaks or repairs. I encourage you to take a close look at this elegant lamp shade, it's extremely rare to see a shade of this quality. This may be a once in a life time opportunity. A simply stunning piece that will add warmth to your Arts & Crafts Mission style decor! Note: The finial and lamp stand is not included. The Griffin is a legendary creature with the head, beak and wings of an eagle, the body of a lion and occasionally the tail of a serpent or scorpion. Its origin lies somewhere in the Middle East where it is found in the paintings and sculptures of the ancient Babylonians, Assyrians and Persians. In Greek mythology, they took gold from the stream Arimaspias and, neighbors of the Hyperboreans, they belonged to Zeus. The later Romans used them for decoration and even in Christian times the Griffin motif often appears. Griffins were frequently used as gargoyles on medieval churches, buildings, and furniture.
