I have for sale this terrific 1939 Santa Claus suit or costume, complete with a coat, pants, two hats (one traditional with a string tassel and one old-fashioned hood-type), boot "spats", a horsehair wig and beard. This item is in its original shipping box, which as you can see from the pictures, was shipped from the Riverside Tailoring Co., located at Capital and St. Clair Streets, in Indianapolis, Ind. It cost 19 cents to ship the costume accoding to the postmark, which is October 23, 1939. I'm fairly sure that the wig and beard are horsehair. I've checked them carefully, and that's my best guess. This is an adult-sized costume. It is 28 inches down the front of the coat, from neck to hem. It is 22 1/2 inches across the shoulders, and the arms are 23 inches long. The bottom hem of th coat is 32 inches across (64 inches around?). It is in fairly good shape. The coat has some discoloring, but no rips or tears. The fabric colored buttons are all there. The pants are a bit more "worn." There have been some ba repairs in the crotch, and there's a couple of tears. But overall, they are useable. The beard has had some work, with the addition of elastic to help it stay on. Look at the pictures. Ask questions. We cheerfully email more pictures to interested bidders when asked.
