Complete Leatherbound Salesman Automotive Parts Catalog United Motors Service General Motors – All vehicles Salesman's Full Catalog All Documents date to the mid 1950's Also contains: Master Parts Catalogs of Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and GM Trucks Fabulous Graphics - Exploded Views of Parts Graphics of the vintage cars - exterior & interior, etc. This is probably a once in a many many years offering. This huge compilation of salesman’s parts catalogs and automotive information has been lingering in an attic for over 50 years. When I first asked questions about this find on the ebay motors discussion board (over a year ago), I had some helpful advice from rather knowledgeable auto folks. I was told that something of this broad range and accumulation of historic data was even museum worthy. I will try to the best of my ability to describe the contents and condition. I tend to be overly critical of item condition because I do want very pleased buyers. Also, I can guarantee that the item is always better than my photographs. BINDER: The binder is metal covered with with a faux leather. I do not believe the outer covering is true leather. The carrying straps or handles are a very heavy leather, though. The top of the huge binder states the following: UNITED MOTORS SERVICE / GM PARTS / SALESMAN’S CATALOG. Spine is over 9 inches. The binder weighs over 30 pounds. This is an extremely heavy item. It weighs over 30 pounds and that is before packaging. This will have to take a very sturdy and very heavy box, maybe even double-boxed for safety purposes. Just the spine is over 9 inches wide. It is so big that just trying to go through the documents to list is a heavy chore. I was afraid to take anything out because I thought I might not get in back in. It is filled with thousands of pages – smaller scarce dealer items, and all of the Highly Illustrated Master Parts Catalogs – It is enormous. The majority of the documents are mid 1950’s. Of course, this would cover many cars / automobile / trucks from earlier years. This is for the ultimate car collector - rather a Jay Leno type item. The back end of this salesman's binder is basically all of the large and heavily illustrated MASTER PARTS Catalogs. I know that if you search long and hard enough you probably can accumulate these large documents. It will cost quite a bit and the condition probably will not match the condition of these catalogs. I am more uncertain if you can find the smaller documents that are rather salesman specific. These documents are mainly in the beginning of the binder. I have just listed the titles of these documents because I am not an automotive expert. Please feel free to email me with any questions. Also, I focused my photos on the catalogs due to the fabulous illustrations. There are tab dividers between the sections. I have listed all of the tab dividers and the document titles below. The following are the named Tab Divider Sections: FIRST SECTION is missing the Tab, but it deals with GM parts history, etc., It begins with United Motors Service, GM Parts History Index dated March 1, 1956. Conversion List Covering GM Repair Kits 12/15/55 Complete and Partial Engine Assemblies for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, GMC Trucks 7/1/55 Chassis and Engine Parts Conversion List (covering: Allied, AP, Auburn, Balkamp, Borg-Warner, Dayton, Doan, Duckworth, Federal Mogul, Fitzgerald, Gates, Hastings, Maremount, McCord, McQuay-Norris, Modac, Monmouth, Moog, Perfect Circle, Perfection, Permite, Powell, Raybestos, Republic, Sealed Power, Sound Master, Spicer, Thermoid, Thompson, Victor, Walker) 6/6/55 GM Special Bulletin Covering Water Pump Gaskets, 5/15/55 GM Special Bulletin Covering Water Pump Gaskets, 5/15/55 GM Special Bulletin on Automatic Transmission Fluid, 5/15/55 4/15/55 Bulletin – Chevrolet Original Equipment, Lined Brake Shoes and Lined Brake Shoe Sets for Passenger Cars and Trucks 11/4/54 GM Parts Group Number Identification for Saginaw Steering Parts 11/1/55 Bulletin: AC Service Parts 1956 GM Applications 10/56 from AC Spark Plug Division of GMC: AC Valve Lifters and Specifications for Chrysler, Desoto, Dodge, Hudson, Lincoln, Nash, Studebaker, Packard, Plymouth Cars w/ 11/1/56 Suggested Price Schedule SAGINAW POWER STEERING: (just 5 pages in this section) 1/3/55 Bulletin: Saginaw Power Steering Accessory Equipment Suggested Resale Schedule 6/15/54 Bulletin: Saginaw Safety Power Steering for Trucks showing Illustrated Accessory Packages, w/ Application List for Chevrolet, Dodge, GMC trucks HYDRAMATIC TRANSMISSION: (I am trying to record all of the data by Tabs, but here it is a bit confusing. There is a catalog in this section that did not come from United Motors / GM. From the form numbers it appears to be a 1956 publication. It is a 34 page illustrated catalog and the salesman inserted divider tabs for the following sections: Hydra-matic / Ford-O-Matic / Dynaflow / Powerglide ) The catalog is from Automatic Transmission Parts, Inc. in Chicago and has codes for all of the above, and is richly illustrated. Then the binder goes back to the basic United Motors Service GM Documents: GM Alphabetical and Numerical Index for Hydra-Matic Transmission Parts Catalog 5/1/57 General Motors Hydramatic Transmission Parts Catalog, 1956 Edition, Cadillac, Chevrolet Truck, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, GMC Truck (HUGE CATALOG w/ Illustrations) GM Hydra-Matic Transmission Service Parts History Record and Suggested Prices PRICES AND MERCHANDISING 4 GM Price change bulletins 1957, 1956 GM Parts Suggested List, Fleet, and Dealer Prices 12/1/56 (342 pages) BUICK PARTS 1956 Application Data for Buick (20 pages) The Master Parts Catalog for Buick (503 pages; Dated 11/1/55) CADILLAC PARTS 1957 Application Data Chassis and Engine Parts for Cadillac (131 pages not counting the illustrations.) 1956 Application Data for Cadillac (96 pages) Master Parts Catalog for Cadillac (343 pages; Dated 3/15/55) CHEVROLET PARTS 1957 Application Data Chassis and Engine Parts for Chevrolet Passenger Cars and Trucks – dated 1/1/57 – 78 pages + illustrations 1956 Application Data for Chevrolet – 63 pages Master Parts Catalog for Chevrolet (503 pages; Dated 9/15/55) OLDSMOBILE PARTS 1956 Application Data for Oldsmobile Master Parts Catalog for Oldsmobile (358 pages; Dated 10/15/55) PONTIAC PARTS 1956 Application Data for Pontiac Master Parts Catalog for Pontiac (255 pages; Dated 10/15/55) GM TRUCK PARTS Master Parts Catalog for GM Trucks, Model Series 100 thru 470, 1947 to 1954 (531 Pages; Dated 2/1/56) Master Parts Catalog for GM Trucks, Model Series 100 thru 500, 1955 (404 pages; Dated 3/26/56) The lettering is much better than my photos REGARDING MASTER PARTS CATALOG SECTIONS: There may be common terms that you use to refer to various documents, but since I am not an auto expert, I basically used the title given for the document in the binder. For the Master Parts Catalogs – many are preceded by Documents referred to as “Applications.” These appear to me to be Updated Supplements to the various Master Parts Catalogs. They can contain updated indexes, parts listings and additional large illustrations; it just seems to depend. All of the Master Parts Catalogs are heavily Illustrated – full car diagrams, different parts, how various sections fit together, etc. Re Photos below: I am not a very good photographer, but I did attempt to show you examples of the illustrations in each of the master parts catalogs. I started to size them to fit in the auction, but then I realized they would take forever to load. I have made them clickable photos, instead, so some are larger and some are smaller. Very detailed. "Exploded" views of parts and systems, etc. Sorry about my lack of photography skill. Please email with any questions. You can double click the pages to enlarge. Condition: It was so heavy that when picking it up, I broke the leather carrying straps. The first photo shows the breakage. It also shows what appears to be some white paint on a section of the straps. The carrying straps appear to be heavy leather but the rest of the "leather like covering" appears to be a faux leather. The exterior of the binder shows some wear - some fading to the lettering, but still much better than my photos depict. Also, the majority of the documentation is in pristine condition. Since it was a traveling salesman’s copy to show prospective auto parts stores, mechanic’s garages and full service stations there is no soiling on the pages. These were not garage used items. However, it does have some flaws due to storage. It was stored in an attic for over 50 years and there are a handful of pages that have insect damage, and then there are a few pages with just some edgewear. I have documented the damage below: (In writing the contents for this listing, I reviewed all of the documents and I came up with approx. 13 pages, or 2 documents that showed damage.) The first 7 pages: GM Parts Service History Index, dated 3-1-56 shows significant damage at the top and bottom of the individual sheets. Further into the binder: Hydra-matic Transmission Service Part Parts History Record dated 6/1/57, 7 page bulletin shows damage on the very edges of the document. There may be a few more pages in this massive binder than show some edge wear, (I would imagine that I might miss a few) but almost all are in pristine condition. Check out my other items! Be sure to add me to your favorites list! U.S. Bidders: Shipping will be by UPS Ground. I accept money orders, personal checks or PayPal. If you choose to use PayPal, it must be to a confirmed address. Payment will have to clear prior to shipping. I am including free shipping. I know shipping with full insurance will be near the $50 mark. I will pack it with care. This is a special item. Because this is so heavy, and so rare, I am not going to allow international bidding. I think the shipping would just be a nightmare if I allowed international buyers for this item. I am sorry. Return policy: I believe that some of the documents contained may be almost impossible to find somewhere else. As such, this sale is final sale with no returns. It is definitely a special purchase for the ultimate car collector. Please ask any questions before bidding. Also, note my feedback. I have 100 percent positive feedback, and from the comments I believe you should get a feel as to my honesty and integrity as a seller. I really do aim for happy customers and put a lot of work into my customer service. Thank you. Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool.
