Amazing Vintage Siren/Air Raid/Fog Horn Super Loud Sound Tokyo Siren Co., LTD. Tokyo, Japan. Model SH-180. October 1974. When I researched the Tokyo Siren Co., I found that since 1934 they have been manufacturing rescue equipment, now primarily catering to firefighter's needs and gear. This is a vintage 1974 siren originally manufactured for maritime use. Although the model uses the word "fog horn", it is not like the sound of our fog horns. It is the sound of an air raid siren. As you crank it, the pitch becomes higher until it stabilizes. It has a lever that increases the volume as this is happening. Apparently, 33 cranks of the handle charge the system. The designed range is 1.5 miles. The horn trumpet appears to be aluminum or another light weight metal. The megahorn extends out in three sections to a little over two feet long. It can also be used when collapsed. The siren comes in a sturdy wooden case and the device bolts onto the top of the case with two large wingnuts. When collapsed, the unit fits snugly into the case. We have renovated the interior of the case to insure stabilization. The original ball on the top of the volume lever was missing. I replaced it with an antique glass finial. Wooden case dimensions: 19"L x 10.5"W x 13"H Horn dimenions: 26"L x 7"W x 11.75"H Weight of horn in box: Approximately 30 pounds
