Thank you for viewing my auction. I am now selling over a thousand items which I purchased in the 1950’s-80, at the London auctions, Christie's, Sotheby's, and Phillip's (now Bonham's). Much of it is ancient jewelry which was assembled in the Victorian period from elements found in the archeological excavations of that period. They were widely publicized and wearing such jewelry was fashionable for the elite. Because they reassembled and in most cases incomplete, we are selling the individual elements so more collectors can enjoy them. We were inspired to do so by Robert Liu’s statement in Collectable Beads, that the average collector will be unable to own a single ancient bead. Each is certified authentic. Blue is a color which is rare in nature and highly regarded by nearly all cultures. For the ancient Egyptians, one of the most cherished materials was the gem stone, lapis lazuli which was brought by traders from the North and used for such special things as jewelry, amulets, inlays on sacred objects and for the personal effects of the pharaoh and his family. For auction are six brilliant blue lapis lazuli beads dating to the Old Kingdom Period, 2650-2134 BC. That is the period of the building of the pyramids. These beads are, of course entirely hand made and slightly irregular in form. They are well matched at 12.5-13.5mm in length as well as for color, which is an exceptional for lapis, deep blue. They were probably part of the necklace of a woman of wealth and may have been buried with her. These would make a wonderful addition to a modern jewelry creation. 77A23 Shipping is free Worldwide with the purchase of this item.
