ANTIQUE EARLY 1900 ITCHIMATSU JAPANESE DOLLS BOY & GIRL Item Description Here is a wonderful pair of antique Japanese Ichimatsu dolls. Their faces are exquisitely rendered with wonderful expression and inset glass eyes. I am not an expert on Japanese dolls but I believe these date from the 1920's or 30's but could be earlier. I believe these dolls are referred to as Japanese Ichimatsu-ningyo. They both have well painted features, the body wrapping is present on both and the boy shows the stamp seal, not sure but could this be the stamp of artist Iwamato Shokansai, known also as Toko? I found another doll designed by this artist, known as Toko with the same red brocade obi on the girl doll. The hands of the girl are still wrapped in paper, still protected. The girl doll appears to have human hair and I believe the style is referred to as okappa. The boy doll has a beautiful silk robes and obi/belt, I believe the girl doll outfit is silk as well. Both dolls have well modeled features and hand painted faces. The lower arms and legs are composition and the body and upper limbs are soft material. These dolls have some chips and cracks as expected with dolls of this age, shown well in the images Please note that I have taken many images so that you can clearly see condition. I opted to leave the paper wrapping on the girls hands but the fingers are all intact. Please see the images, and email any questions. The boy doll measures approx. 21" tall and the girl doll is 17". I have provided closeup images but feel free to ask any questions. These dolls are quite valuable with low starting bid. They both were obtained from the same estate.
