Item will be well packed, please read my feedback. THIS WEEK..... This may be my last week of my Holiday Sales, but I keep finding items I forgot I was saving to sell. The items listed this week are all either items out of my personal collection, or items I saved especially for Christmas presents. If I find any more of these 'Holiday Gifts', then I might sneak in 1-2 more sales next week. Normally I ship within 2-3 days of payment, but starting this week I am going to try to ship next day. That is the best I can do to insure you have gifts in time to wrap and put under the tree. I am also going to include generic gift bags and tissue, not Santa Bags but will work just fine, since what is inside is so incredible. This auction is for wonderful and early letter opener. The Hunting Dog(English Setter) holding his retrieved bird makes a perfect stocking stuffer for anyone that loves fine dogs, hunting, advertising items or just needs a great one-of-a-kind letter opener for their den or their office. I have to believe this is a very early example, metal ruler opener with a celluloid cover on the handle, see picts. The entire letter opener is approx. 8 inches long, 4 inches are marked on the metal ruler/knife opener. The advertising side is for 'Cornwell and Reed Brokers, Oil City PA, and 60 Bway(Broadway) N.Y.', see picts. I am hoping the addresses help to date this as an early piece, and will guarantee it to be very vintage. My favorite feature of this letter opener is the hunting dog, with a retrieved bird in his mouth. I have a close-up of this picture as my husband and I both believe this proud hunter is an English Setter, see picts. It is not that I do not like birds, but this dog is so proud of his catch, hard not to be happy for him, see picts. The maker's information is underneath the dog it reads, 'Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark N.J.'. I could not find any significant damage to this opener, other then the wear to the lettering from frequent use. I have lots of pictures, hopefully the beauty of this piece will show.
