Unlike American Theatrical cartoons, the ephemeral cartoons on this DVD were designed to educate, to inform, and to enlighten. But, these cel-animated shorts sometimes carried very serious agendas. They were used to promote new commercial products, political ideologies, scientific concepts, Atomic Bomb safety, consumerism, and mental health. Whereas theatrical cartoons were shown primarily in movie theaters, ephemeral cartoons were shown in schools, libraries, museums, club meetings and town halls. 16mm prints were offered free of charge to anyone who wanted to show them. Various sponsors, with various agendas footed the bill for these post-war artifacts.
