On November 19, 1969, Capt. Bean and Commander Pete Conrad landed the Lunar Module Intrepid on the Ocean of Storms, just a few 100 feet from the unmanned Surveyor III spacecraft which made a soft landing a couple of years earlier. This pin-point landing established the ability of NASA to accurately target lunar landing missions, paving the way for later Apollo landings in more treacherous terrain. Offered here is a beautiful photograph of Capt. Bean as he first stepped off of the landing pad of the Lunar Module Intrepid onto the lunar surface on November 19, 1969. You can see the reflection of Pete Conrad (who took the picture) in Capt. Bean’s visor and some details of the LM, including the hatch, the porch, the ladder and the gold foil that protected the descent stage. It is a LARGE, high quality, 16" x 20" matte finish photo on high quality Kodak Professional paper. Only 4 photo laboratories are authorized by NASA to handle the original negatives and this photo was made by one of those labs. It is un-retouched and first generation-- made directly from the original NASA negative. The photo is signed in bold, gold pen and includes, in addition to the signature, the words “My First Step on the Ocean of Storms†above the signature and “Apollo 12†below the signature. The image above is of a representative copy of this item. This image was taken with a digital camera. The edges may appear uneven, but rest assured that the item is exactly rectangular and is 16†x 20†in dimension. The words "Planet Promotions" were added to the scan to discourage copying, but they are not on the actual photo. This item is perfect for matting and framing. The item you will receive will be signed in approximately the same area and in the same manner and quality. You may e-mail if you wish to see a scan of the photograph you will actually receive. PLUS: The buyer will also receive a 4" x 6" photograph of Capt. Bean signing photos. See scan above for an example of the type of photo the buyer will receive– this photo is Capt. Bean signing in his studio on March 24, 2002. You can see his large model of the lunar module and of Surveyor III on the table behind him.
