eclecticmuseum Store - 18TH CENTURY HUNGARIAN SWORD A very unusual 18th century Eastern European Saber most likely Hungarian or Polish. DETAILS: A sturdy slightly curved single edged steel blade with two fullers, a hilt comprised of a grip with horn scales rising to a bulbous pommel in a Turkish Ottoman style enclosed by plane iron straps, a plain iron stirrup hilt of typical eastern European form made from several elements with knuckle bow langets and down-turned quillon with knob finial. CONDITION: The horn grip is with cracks and old repairs. The overall length is 98cm (38 5/8 in). This particular sword is a good example of a mix of European and Turkish influence in one object which was very characteristic for Eastern European arms.
