Description

An *Important Note* for My Friends of the Needle....      What makes purchasing from April 1930's, Sewing - Artistic and Practical different?  "A Stitch In Time Saves Nine"; that is what is different.  My husband and I provide assurance that all machines, attachments, and accessories are rust-free, working properly and ready to use.  Each one is serviced, oiled, tested, and sampled, if necessary, for reliability.  (We regularly have defective attachments and parts that have to be discarded because a tiny part or piece inside has worn out.)  In all appearances these vintage collectibles and sewing instruments can look perfect, but it is of most importance that you have one that works perfectly.  You will have the immediate gratification of purchasing, receiving and using your new-to-you vintage sewing collectible.  What’s more, there is always service above and beyond …. so as to give you one more stitch of satisfaction and peace of mind from purchasing at April 1930's and affiliates (e-mail me for recommendations).  As the saying goes, “A Stitch in Time Saves Nine” - that little stitch-in-time has already been done for you at Sewing - Artistic and Practical of April 1930’s. AND PASTE.-->    MACHINE SEWING BOOK  by Singer Manufacturing Company Rather unusual edition in that it has theSPECIAL TRIMMINGS Section in the Back! LOTS OF PHOTOS - BE SURE TO SEE THEM ALL SCROLL all the way DOWN I am so excited to start this listing and offer you a highly sought after, but very hard to find book. Yes, these are few and far between and becoming harder and harder to find as more and more Singer Sewing Machine & Attachment collectors see the value in owning such a quality book with a wealth of information... No matter what kind of old Singer you own ~ a 15, 66, 99, 127, 128, 192, 201, Featherweight 221 and 222, etc... just so long as you have a low, vertical shank sewing machine, whether it be treadle or electric, consider yourself part of this special club of collecting good instruction from the well-known MACHINE SEWING book!   MACHINE SEWING  A TREATISE ON THE CARE AND USE OF FAMILY SEWING MACHINES AND THEIR ATTACHMENTS   With a copyright date from the 1928, these books preceded the Featherweight 221 and 222K sewing machine.  Honestly, however, that doesn't seem to matter too much to collectors in that the wealth of information to be had in this little green gem is astounding!  It certainly goes into much greater detail and adds insight and knowledge of sewing machine attachments that are not ordinarily found.  I assure you, you will not be disappointed.  If I could photograph each and every page of this book, I would - just to show you how incredible it is. What's really exciting about these books is that attachment knowledge is applicable with nearly all Singers!  YES!  15, 66, 99, 185, 192, 201, 221 and 222 Featherweight, 319, 328, etc...  All low, vertical shank vintage Singer Sewing Machine owners will find this book useful, purposeful and enjoyable!      Machine Know-How, Troubleshooting, Stitch Formation, Vibrating or Long Shuttle, Oscillating Hook, Oscillating Shuttle, Rotary Hook, Single Thread Elastic Chain Stitch   Attachments:  Chapter on the Binder & Bias Tape, Chapter on the Foot Hemmer & Adjustable Hemmer (giving names to each part of the attachment), Chapter on the Tucker, Chapter on the Ruffler; Chapter on Special Labor-Saving Attachments:  Darning, Shirring Plate, Gathering Foot, Quilter, Underbraider, Edge-Stitcher, Hemstitcher (the rare & unique presser foot, not the picot edger attachment), Buttonholes;   This edition contains a very special section on "Trimmings" and various other applications for attachment use.  The talent the Singer ladies of yesterday had is still amazing today.... absolutely beautiful work! Chapter on Trimmings to be made:  Tucking, Puffing, Plaiting, Ruffles, Bound Scallops, Braiding, Loops of Military Braid, Bound Edges, Medallions with Cross-Tucked Centers, Circular Collar, Cuffs, Rosettes of Ribbon & Lace, Ornamental Stitching; Chapter on Electric Sewing Machines, Motors & Lights - going into great detail about the ins and outs of different kinds of sewing machines. LOTS MORE PHOTOS OF INSIDE THE BOOK SCROLL DOWN BELOW . . .   The Purpose of This Book . . .      .... Although the sewing machine is a comparatively modern invention, it has proven such an invaluable time and labor saver that it is found in nearly every home.  Few, however, realize its full possibilities and, through lack of this knowledge, fail to obtain the large measure of usefulness the machine is capable of yielding.  With proper instruction in the use of the machine and its attachments and with a little practice, anyone can produce economically the many items of clothing and household equipment demanded by modern standards of living.       Special attention has been given in the following pages to methods which will produce well-constructed, nicely-finished garments and effect a saving in time and labor, which is more essential to-day than ever before.  Hand sewing is too laborious and time consuming for this fast-moving age and cannot result in that smart tailored finish so easily obtainable with the sewing machine.      Beginning with the important fundamentals in the proper care and operation of the sewing machine itself, a seamstress is then led progressively through the many uses of the regular attachments which form part of its equipment, then to special attachments which may be purchased as extra equipment and practical suggestions are made for the application of these principles to the construction and trimming of garments most frequently made at home.  Finally a chapter is devoted to that important new development, the electric sewing machine, which means as much to the woman of to-day as the advent of the treadle machine meant to the woman of seventy years ago.      Each chapter presents detailed instruction and the samples illustrated are suitable projects for subsequent practice work.... A complete and wonderful Singer Attachments Reference Book!  Condition is excellent - binding is tight and pages are clean.  Certainly a gift-worthy book! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~More Singer and Sewing Collectibles in My Listings!       ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~         Dear Friends of the Needle, ....We are friends because we all know one thing in common, that is, the joy of the needle, that little one-eyed help-meet, that will act as a vent for all those artistic feelings that demand outlet and expression in the form of making and doing things. What a big family we are, all wielders of the little sewing needle, the knitting needle, the crochet hook and the machine needle in its multiplicity of forms, from the very fine one that will sew the gossamer frock of the little girl’s fancy dress, to the heirloom quilt, to the sturdy member that sews our leather gloves and shoes.  Truly, they are one-eyed helpmeets that have added to our comforts and helped us to make progress through this busy world.   But if the machine needles had not been harnessed to good reliable instruments, so that they could work in the quickest and neatest way, they could not have done so much good, and that is why we, as needle workers, are grateful to the age-old Sewing Machine Companies for giving us that vintage instrument and in turn, giving it a beautiful setting with which to work.   We also have to be thankful for the vintage service of instruction, so that even those with basic knowledge can be taught how to make the most of their machine and its wonderful attachments.   Now you have the privilege of purchasing vintage books and instruction on how to make, mend and design, with professional tips, all of which would cost a large sum if you took lessons in the ordinary way.  Here you have the written word that remains, as well as illustrations and diagrams making every point clear.  It is my privilege to impart some of that knowledge to you and it is a joy to know from your letters that it has helped women in some of the loneliest corners of the world.  The word “Sewing” and all it conveys is beyond description in this limited space.   My special message to you is - be a Singer Sewer and your troubles are o'er. You can have pretty, smart frocks, dainty underwear and house-linen, and little Jack and Mary can be well and comfortably dressed without encroaching too much on the family exchequer. If you want any information on machines or obtaining service for your machine, please write to me through my page and I will assist you.   In the meantime, I am going forth to continue the good work of gratifying more friends of the needle.   As Always - Your Stitchery Friend,   April        I look forward to becoming Your Stitchery Friend...
