Click Photo to Enlarge You are bidding on a Black Thermoplastic Kellogg ITT Model K500 telephone which dates to August of 1963. These phones were manufactured from approximately 1959 through 1967 when ITT removed the Kellogg brand name from its products and moved the manufacturing facilities out of Chicago. This was one of the last of the new style 500's and one of the last of the Kellogg lines. At the time of production, Kellogg was a subsidiary of IT&T. Kellogg's remnants are now know as Cortelco. This phone is a modern collectible because of its incredibly short manufacturing lifespan and its now dwindling number. Click Photo to Enlarge This telephone has been tested and works fine. It dials out, receives calls, talks, listens. This phone is as it was originally marked being color "00" or black. No special feature, "M" being metropolitan dial. Its parts all match to 1963 with a few exceptions mentioned below. It was also marked LR which meant "Less Ringer". The ringer in this telephone is dated to 1967 and the transmitter and receiver capsules are both dated 1966. At some point the independent phone company that serviced this phone and probably swapped out the transmitter and receiver capsules. The ringer rings ((((SUPER-LOUD)))) but can be adjusted by turning the little wheel poking through the bottom of the baseplate. The handset is marked Kellogg ITT with the Kellogg Griffin on it, which matches the base shell Griffin too, however it perfectly matches the base which is marked Kellogg ITT. The handset cord is in excellent condition. This cord was Kellogg's version of "C-Stock" which means the cord was removed from stock and redyed. This was originally a pink cord redyed to black. The dye is permanent. I will include the original aged plastic baggie that the cord came in. The line cord is new black vinyl with a modular plug on the end so it can be plugged in and used today. The dial center number card is a reproduction featuring the Kellogg Griffin. The K500 was designed for Western Electric by Henry Dreyfuss to replace the Western Electric 302 in the early to mid-1950s. By this time thermoplastic had become very popular in the post-war baby boom and a lot of folks wanted the "modern" look for their phones. Mr. Dreyfus obliged. The result was a variety of colors in the Western Electric palette, Kellogg and IT&T Palette, and Stromberg Carlson Palette, that persisted until the 1980's. By the late 1950's each manufacturer was licensing the design from Western Electric and producing nearly identical looking telephones. The parts inside this telephone are in fact genuine Kellogg manufactured parts. The dial is a Kellogg 19G dial and the network is a 425 Network made by Kellogg. Same with the receiver parts. The base shell is marked Kellogg ITT and the handset is marked GraBAR. Click Photo to Enlarge There are no serious scratches or cracks in this phone, however upon close examination it still bears some marks of its use and history, but otherwise it is functional and works beautifully.
