*****BEAUTIFUL TROPICAL TREASURE***** COLLECTIBLE PINE NEEDLE BASKET WITH HANDCRAFTED GREEN TREE FROG WEIGHT HANDWOVEN BASKET by FIDELINA Centuries old technique of BASKETWEAVING using PINE NEEDLES indigenous to the BAY ISLAND of GUANAJA, HONDURAS. Beautifully handwoven small round basket with decorative pottery frog tassel (including a handpainted pottery frog and bone bead) attached to the lid,  pine needles secured with crow stitch using a delicate shade of "NATURAL SANDSTONE" colored thread.  Dimensions are approx 3.5 inches deep x 4 inches wide.  This decorative basket would be perfect for collecting seashells on a table, placing jewelry on a night stand, or as a special gift box to a good friend or loved one. Each basket is painstakingly handwoven by a native woman, FIDELINA of the tiny island of Guanaja.  FIDELINA supports her 3 children through her basket sales to locals, mission workers, tourists and divers who would visit the island.  The basket comes with an informative card attached, to validate it's authenticity.  It is in new condition and has never been used. THIS BASKET IS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY!  NOTE THE EVEN STITCHWORK AND PLEASING SHAPE.  ONE COULD SEARCH FOR MONTHS TO FIND SUCH BASKETS AS THESE BEAUTIFUL QUALITY BASKETS by FIDELINA! The particular pine tree from which these pine needles are gathered is grown in the upper most peaks of the lush rainforest terrain, with this species being native only to the island of Guanaja.  Interesting is the fact that in 1998 Hurricane Mitch hovered over this tiny island for several long days, literally wiping all vegetation down to the ground.  Thankfully, the warm breezes and tropical showers have brought renewed life to sunny Guanaja, restoring flora to a lushness that the island was once known for.  As Christopher Columbus set out to discover the New World, it is said that his crew landed on Guanaja in search of fresh drinking water.  It turns out that Guanaja is the only Bay Island with such an underground aquifer of sweet crystal clear water.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding this Caribbean treasure.
