Indeed,the First English Coronation srevice was drawn up for the crowning of Edger,great-grandson of Alfred the Great in AD 973. In 1953,against the wishes of her courtiers and the then Prime Minister Winston Churchill,Queen Elizabeth granted permission for the BBC to broadcast her Coronation at Westminster Abbey live on television. Special Pathe News cameras were also granted access,to record the dramatic and historical proceedings in brilliant Technicolour.
