Victorian era old celluloid sewing box with contents for young girl. Handwritten in ink underside of box "A present for Hazel Haugen from Papa". Ivory colored celluloid exterior with embossed floral pattern front/sides and lid. Lid with dark gold metallic accents on flowers. underside of box covered with sage green floral pattern on dark beige paper. Brass hinges and latch with lift-up tab. Dusty blue green silk fabric interior. Inside lid with slots for tools. Fabric quite freyed bottom compartment. Box exterior in near excellent condition; tiny 1/8" chip in celluloid back side corner edge. 5" x 3/12" x 2 3/16" high. Lift lids open to reveal contents as found in box: Girl's Thimble: Dark metal, probably silver plated. Embossed both sides at base "FOR A GOOD GIRL". 9/16" Deep x 1/2" diameter. Heart Pin Cushion: Beige velvet fabric top. Dark green velvet base. Dark green cord handle. 1/8" Missing green fabric top left border. 2 1/4" 2 1/4" x 3/4" loft. Thread Samples: Labeled selection of silk thread samples - 29 colors in the rainbow, 7 cards. Needle included w/one of the cards. Various size cards. Spool Cotton Thread: Appears unused. Cotton thread wrapped round cardboard spool. 7/8" Diameter x 7/8" high. Ribbon: Swatch of white satin ribbon 4 1/4" x 1". Buttonhole Sample: Eggshell colored fabric swatch with worked buttonhole. Excellent condition. 3" x 2". Darning Sample: Swatch of brown knit sock fabric with darning sample work in black thread. Darned condition. 4" x 3 1/2".
