Description

Civil War Document - 198th Pennsylvania Regiment This is a page removed at some point from a ledger, measures approximately 14 1/2" long, by 10" wide. Note that in the picture, it is folded, just the way that I found it, so appears smaller, there is nothing written on the bottom half that is not shown. Top reads "The United States, In account with William Roberts, of "C" Company, 198th Regiment of Penna. Vols, on account of Clothing during his enlistment; the money value of each issue being acknowledged. Enlisted at Philada., Penn., on the Fifth day of October, 1864". It goes on to list various dates and monetary amounts for items issued to William Roberts on, each signature witnessed, most by Carlton Birch. I did some research to be sure, and both William Roberts and Carlton Birch are listed as members of this regiment and company. Document has tears at bottom, including a small piece having been torn off and is missing (approximately 1" by 2"), is ragged on the left side where torn out of ledger, and has various stains, as can be seen in the picture. Still a very interesting piece of Civil War history. Check out our other auctions & store for more great items!
