Description

This is a new reproduction Classic C shaped fire steel or flint striker - also called a Double Finger Loop fire steel by the Museum of the Fur Trade. Originals have been found throughout the American Colonies, most European countries, and are pictured in the books Fire Steels by Cacciandra and Cesati , Where Two Worlds Meet, Voices from the Rapids, Firearms Traps and Tools of the Mountain Men, and several issues of The Museum of the Fur Trade Quarterly. Similar fire steels have been found in 1st to 3rd Century Roman digs - but Roman ones tend to have a little peak on the inside of the striking surface, and either straight ends or extra little curls on both ends. With an extra little curl on only one end, it tends to place this into the late 1700's or early 1800's, and to the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade era. This style would have been carried by a farmer, settler, hunter, soldier, or member of one of the Tribes in the North America - from first contact on through the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade. The C shaped flint striker is THE MOST COMMON style of fire steel, and crosses all the centuries from very early Roman times on up to the present. I hand forged this up from high carbon spring/tool steel, and heat-treat it to throw a large quantity of sparks when struck smartly with a sharp piece of flint. If you are recreating a settler, soldier, or hunter in the Colonies, or just like old style tools that were used in everyday life, then this is just what you need for your kit. It has the look and style of the originals, and it throws better sparks. Use it everyday to start your cooking fires, or add it to a period trade display. Size is approximately 2 3/4 inch by 1 7/16 inch, and 3/16 inch thick. Shipping will be $2 via USPS in the United States and most of Canada, $4 to the British Isles and most of Western Europe, and might be a little more for other areas overseas. Payment is expected within 7 days in US funds - personal check (shipped when check clears), money order, or Paypal (credit cards through Paypal). I will combine shipping on multiple items. Thank you for your interest in my humble work. It is appreciated.
