This plane is a Dietrich Brothers Plane, manufacturer, that used Loughborough's 1854 Patent. This was in production for one year, 1853. This example is 13 1/2" long with a 2 1/8" cutter. The cutter is distinctly marked M W Hollister Rochester. The planes body is cast, the marking is Patent applied for, Dietrich Brothers Manufacture, Rochester NY.The caplock is bronze as are the two keeper screws. The bottom screw adjusts the angle of the cutter. The caplock also is the chip breaker as it will slide to adjust its position on the cutter. The tote is dovetailed and slides into a milled position on the body of the plane. (See page 40, Vol 2 of R Smiths patented planes book.)Several words on condition: the plane is complete with no missing parts. Excepting the caplock which was cleaned, no other cosmetics have been done. The tote has a clever repair, near its bottom, that is not very apparent. There are no cracks or breaks in any of the castings.I would think the plane to be in very good condition. For a plane that is about 155 years old, this might be understated. Please use the calculator for S&H in the US, somewhat higher elsewhere. Out of country folks should advise their address for an accurate shipping charge. My experience shipping to Canada is, if I can get the auction in a padded envelope, the charge is about the same as shipping in the US. However, if it must go in a carton or box, charges go up and have to be recalculated for your postal code. Please email me to clarify what you might expectMultiple auctions to the same address will reduce the S&H.Paypal is preferred, money orders and checks are ok, although a check may delay the transaction. Out of country folks are always welcome, but must use paypal or international money orders.Auctions ending on Saturdays will now ship on Tuesday, as for awhile, I will be unable to do any Monday shipping. Normally, all my auctions ship when payment is complete, excepting weekends. To further your interest and knowledge of old tools, I would invite you to take a look at the Mid-West Tool Collectors Association.
