I would guess that this held either a sauce or chutney/relish. There are 5 little 'flea bite' chips on the outside edge of the lip - all tiny and all look like they may have occurred when the jar was opened with something sharp (ice pick?) to remove the cork. Lots of inside haze and cloudiness and some irridescence. The glass is a yellow-green (very pale) in color. The bottle was blown in mold and looks like an applied lip to me. This one has very strong embossing, showing the 'gauntlett' emblem very well. No damage other than the tiny lip nicks. It stands about 5 3/4" tall and the base is about 2". We will be listing food, sauce, mustard and condiment bottles for the next week or so. Our best peppersauces and pickles (and spices) have been sent to Glassworks Auction for 2 fall sales. The very best will go in the Catalog sale, the others in a general auction. The dates were not yet set the last I checked, but the Catalog auction will end sometime between Oct. 2nd and 15th.
