If you love red leather, I also have several other great red leather pieces that are not to be missed.I've taken lots of photos to give you a really good look at the detail on this fabulous piece. The gold embossing is beautiful. I love the slot for scissors and the colorful handprinted paper lining the inside. This box appears to have been well-used and well-loved. It has a great patina that I have not tried to affect in any way by cleaning or polishing. This box is about 6" tall and 5.5" in diameter. The bottom is embossed:The General Trading Co.(Mayfair) LtdGrantham PlacePark Lane, W1I did a little searching online, and this is what the General Trading Co website has to say about its history:General Trading Company HistoryThe General Trading Company was founded in 1920 by the Part family and occupied premises in Grantham Place, off Park Lane W1, for the next 40 years.During this tumultuous period, it became one of London’s first ‘boutique’ home stores selling a multifarious selection of pieces including furniture, interior decoration, gifts, china, glass, clothing and accessories. Always adventurous, sometimes frivolous, everything exuded passion and panache.Borne out of these early years came the wedding list concept (embraced by so many couples to this day) along with the patronage of the Royal Family. In 1962 the shop moved to the fashionably smart surroundings of Sloane Street where it began to make a distinguished name for itself. Initially the company settled comfortably into two large Victorian houses before they were substantially remodeled to make them into one workable retail business. As the sixties swung into the seventies, the General Trading Company became unashamedly London’s most fascinating shop. A pot-pourri of desirable objects catering for the eclectic tastes of its customers. Around this time, the overseas market became equally captivated and the shop grew into one with iconic standing. I accept payment via PayPal only, as this provides us both with security. Payment must be received within 7 days of sale to avoid re-listing.As most of my items are one-of-a-kind, I always require shipping insurance and pack very carefully to avoid any damage in transit. Packing and handling charges are included in the quoted shipping fee. All sales are final. Please read descriptions closely, examine all photographs, and ask your questions at least 24 hours before the end of the auction. Vintage items are sold as is, and any patina is part of the charm.
