One side appears to have a little calcite, while the other side appears clean. Not sure how deep the calcite goes, but is still a very nice piece! This material was hand selected for me upon request and I paid dearly for that! Not to mention prices have risen drastically due to shipping costs and general economic woes(what hasn't)! I will continue to start my items WELL BELOW my cost hoping that lapis buffs will realize the quality they are receiving. Quality lapis today can reach $300 a kilo!! Up from $250- Here is some excellent Lapis Lazuli. This is from the Badakhshan Province in Afghanistan. This is a quality piece perfect for the lapidary enthusiast, jeweler or collector. If you've been in the market for lapis, you know It is very difficult to obtain high quality rough lapis these days, Many lapis pieces I've seen have beautiful color, it's just that there is tiny pieces of calcite embedded within (flecks)to make it impossible to cut around. This greatly reduces the grade of lapis, and why the price is so reasonable. I've been dealing with Lapis for several years and always seek out the best possible on the market and a true Lapis enthusiast knows how much quality Lapis costs, especially in single hand select pieces. Now, I do not want to be just the lapis guy, I want to be your knowledgeable lapis guy with a great product at a fair price! I occasionally deal with other material, but lapis is my passion and specialty... Piece measures approximately 2.89" to .93" long X 2.57" to .55" tall X 1.36" and weighs 184.88 grams or 6.52 ounces Pictures taken wet to simulate polish(under sunny skies)...No picture enhancements of any kind, no filters and no dark shadowy pictures.
