~~ E Komo Mai and Welcome to Marianne of Maui's Listings~~ Here is another Marianne of Maui Handmade Heirloom Quilt -- entirely handmade with NEVER a machine stitch on it!!. The unique feature about this quilt is that it is a beaded Hawaiian quilt.(size 48 x 45) Everything was appliqued, giving this entire quilt a very tactile quality as you run your fingers over it and feel the layered on, cross stitched patches. The shell motif, entirely my own design, and NOT from a quilt book, was beaded in macasite beads from my grandmother's dress. She saved the fringe, as back close to a century agon, immigrant ladies were quite ressourceful and did not discard anything that might have use another day. In the Hawaiian morning glo, you are looking at the sparkle of these macasite seed beads on my design. I chose to make a solid navy blue window and set at a point so the rainbow background fabric could contribute to the crazy motif. If you see pinches, you are seeing a peek to remind you to turn the quilt over to see the vintage Hawaiian fabric side. All the patches on the reverse were from the garments made during the 70's. I know because thirty years ago, I picked up some these scrappies at Hilo Hattie to make my own prefabrications. (You know the kind, the ones my mother felt sorry for the fabric!). I was so happy to sees the vibrant oranges and pinks, although I did not appreciate the brown tapas. So you have a generational quilt here, with patches from after the turn of the twentieth century on the side with my shell motif, to the the back with patches from the last century. Another unusual feature about this quilt, is that I took bindings from previous quilts and bound the quilt with these left overs, which contribute to the 'one-ness' of the crazy theme. So there is no solid single color border framing it. If you are interested in the vintage patches, you can find them in my listings ---I am selling them Buy it Now, @ five dollars, for about 60.
