Description

On September 24 1948 Juan Peron announced that John Griffiths  an attache' to the American Embassy in Buenos Aires had plotted to assassinate him and his wife Eva. He denounced Griffiths as  an agent of International Capitalism. The letter written in October of that year refers to that dramatic event. Translation: General Juan Peron respectfully greets His Excellency Bishop of Bahia Blanca, Monsignor Germiniano Esorto, and by acknowledging receipt of his telegram in support for the failing of the cospiracy, espresses his profound satisfaction knowing that the Argentine Church, led by its virtuous authorities, have honored their beautiful and orthodox tradition of respect to the estabilished powers. He seizes the opportunity to renew his kind regards. Buenos Aires, October 1948. The letter 7 X 9 (cm 17 X 22) is partially mounted on medium stock paper, is repaired in the back with tape is creased and has a glue spot to the bottom. It is hand signed by Peron in black ink and on the top bears an embossed seal of Argentina. Important historical document.
