eskimo Store Very nice, very old, individually framed Tarot Card. From what I have been able to find out on the net, it is a Mlle Le Normand Astro Mytho Hermetic Card, that is French in origin. I know nothing about Tarot, but saw these framed cards at an Estate Sale, and thought they were incredibly cool. From what I have found about the cards, the Mlle Le Normand cards were originally printed in the mid 1800s. I saw pictures of an original set that was printed in 1845-50, and the card you see for auction here had the exact same pictures as the original cards. I do believe the framed card I am auctioning is from a later printing, but I do believe it to be from around the turn of the last century, somewhere around 1900, maybe a little earlier, maybe a little later. If there are any experts on these cards out there, let me hear from you. I have another one that I listed right before this one. I believe you will be able to see the card well in the pictures I've included in the ad, but I'll describe them anyway. I have never taken the card out of the frame, so I haven't seen the other side of the card, but I would imagine it is solid red, like the ones I did see pictures of. Across the top of the card on the left is what looks like a Jack of Spades, but he has a dog with him, and the word "Hogier" is in the picture. In the middle of the top is some type of astrological chart, and on the top right is a L. The middle portion of the card depicts a philosopher or scientist, with all the tools of learning around him. Table, chair, globe, books, scales, etc. The bottom left portion of the card shows a religious figure of some sort counseling or consoling two other men. The bottom middle, some plants and flowers, and the bottom right, another religious figure preaching or counseling another man across the table with the aid of a book. I don't know what any of these symbols mean, but maybe you do. The card was obviously used, and does show wear, but the colors are good, and it is in great condition considering its age. The card is about 5 1/8" tall and 3 5/8" wide. In the faux wood laminated frame, it is 7 7/8" tall and 6 3/8" wide. On the back there is a sticker for the DuBose Gallery in Houston, TX. Like I previously stated, I know nothing about Tarot, but I did find out that the various types and ages of cards are enthusiasticly collected. This may be a very desirable one, and it is nicely framed and ready to display. If you have any questions a about the item, please do not hesitate to ask.
