This auction is of a very good example of the pioneering Leak Stereo 30 Amplifier.It is in original condition,with no modifications,and in full working order,complete within its Leak case . By around 1960, it became clear to Leak that the future for hi-fi amplifiers lay with combined preamplifiers and amplifiers,built as one unit.It was also evident that transistor based designs were starting to replace traditional valve based designs.Accordingly,Leak decided to develop an entirely new amplifier.However,it was a number one priority that standards would not be compromised and that the new amplifier would offer the same audio quality as earlier products.Specifically with regard to the level of distortion.Considerable research was duly undertaken and the result was the Stereo 30.Maximum power output was 15 watts into 4 ohms,but more significantly,distortion was was held to 0.1% for 8 watts into 15 ohms. The Stereo 30 is a versatile unit with input facilities for microphone,tape amplifier,tuner,pickup & tape head.It has switchable input facilities for mono,stereo,left,right and 4 further setting selected by a panel mounted rotary switch.There are two levels of slope,gradual or steep,and a tape monitor,both controlled by a linear switch.The amplifier design incorporates a smart front panel with adjustable controls for volume,bass and treble,and a further control for a 3 position filter. The particular Leak Stereo 30 which is the subject of this auction,is,as may be seen from the photographs in excellent condition..The amplifier is fully functional on both channels and produces audio of an excellent,fully rounded quality which is typical of the justly famous Leak sound.The fact that it has its original Leak case is a nice bonus.A true classic!
