Genuine Diamond Guaranteed -Classic Collectibles-eLot Of Eight Original Vanity Fair Lithographs 1872-1898Portraits of Victorian Policemenby "Spy", etc.Approximate Sizes- 10 1/2" x 15" Vanity Fair was published in England from 1869 to 1914, and is unrelated to the later American magazine of the same name. This magazine had articles about the royal family, fashions of the day, and of course the weekly news. The highlight of each issue was a caricature of a well-known person. These figures ran the gamut from politicians to businessmen, doctors and scientists, legal and literary, military and musicians, theatrical, sports figures; golfers, jockeys, cricket players, and even Royalty, to name a few. The vast majority of these prints are true chromo-lithographs printed directly from slabs of limestone, one color for each "plate". This resulted in a rich continuous tone image, unlike the halftone dots of the later photo offset process. These eight original Vanity Fair lithographs are from the prime years of the magazine 1872 through 1898. Most were drawn by Vanity Fair's top caricaturist Leslie Ward, a.k.a. "Spy". Included are: James Monro, Charles Edward Howard Vincent, Lt. Col. Edmund Yeamans Walcott Henderson, Col. Vivian Dering Majendie, Roger Eykin, R.H. Bullock-Marsham, Sir Melville MacNaghten, and James Lennox Hannay. The average condition of the prints in this lot is fine. All are suitable for framing, and most come with the original page of biographical text from the magazine.Emporio Leopardo's eBay store currently has a large and growing collection of original Vanity Fair lithographs at discounted prices, including a number that are particularly rare and hard to find.
