RARE images of 1950's Malaya recent postcards, printed on premium quality cream lumisilk card. SET OF 5. Size: 10.5 x 15 cm. Limited edition. Images sourced from original vintage prints taken by an important pioneer photographer in Malaysian Modern Art Photography. EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY! The photographer:- HRH Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah (1907-79) was the 14th Sultan and Ruler of Terengganu and the 4th King (Yang di Pertuan Agong) of Malaysia. He was also a highly talented and influential pioneer photographer of Malaysia. He introduced a different dimension to the expression of the art form in the country and broke many local traditional and stereotypical thinking of picture taking. He was a patron of the Photographic Society of Malaysia from the time of independence of the nation from Britain in 1957 until his demise in 1979. Using this platform, his role as Ruler and Head of State, as well as his natural gift to see things in a different light, he had gained enormous respect by his countrymen and was able to unite fellow photographers not only in his country but also neighboring Singapore (which was part of Malaysia until 1965). Only prints, negatives and color slides after 1948 by Sultan Ismail exist as his earlier works did not survive the second world war. These set of postcards were made to commemorate the 40th anniversary of independence in 1997.
