#4764 Dressed Mice (Evening with the Family) This original 1940’s postcard was published by Alfred Mainzer, Inc. 39-33 29th Street, Long Island City 1, New York. Copyright by Max Kurich, Zurich 6/35, and printed in Switzerland. The dressed mice, created by artist, Eugen Hartung (1897-1973),famous for the dressed cats, are part of a large collection of animal postcards he designed. The early postcards had a rough finish, brilliant colors, and scalloped ("deckled") edges. The mice postcards are far rarer than the cat postcards. This postcard, # 4764, depicts a family spending an evening at home. Mother and Grandma feed the baby and Papa smokes his pipe and reads the paper. The boys bowl using carrots as pins and potatoes as the ball. The detail is wonderful and such sweet expressions on their faces. It was created in the 1940’s, the cats are dressed in the styles of that period, (It is in near mint) some very slight yellowing and very tiny yellowing spots), the color is excellent and it is in unused condition. The postcard has been photographed, not scanned. Each computer monitor shows color and texture differently. I have tried my best to show this postcard as it is.
