Description

Beautiful war-dated document from the noted firm of J.T. and E.P. Herpin, importers and dealers in staple and fancy dry goods. Dated February 18th, 1862, it documents items bought in Mobile during the first year of the War to include:  A porcelain curtain nail, two bottles of "Bloom of Youth", one white wreath, one frame, and a diverse selection of cloth and material to include 38 yards of cotton "diaper". This was shipped up river as shown by the charges for drayage and wharfage, but the name of the boat is not shown.   A superb early war item documenting the sale of goods and non-essentials that within a year would be either too expensive or simply not to be had.
