The white spot in the centre is acually a subtle Chatoyant river (a natural character in stone) also visible at the back. This is a fabulous piece of art from New Zealand by Shane McIntosh. Toki is SM’s new diversification and his fluency and fabulous finishing shows in everything he does! Made from bright green NZ jade from South Westland, South Island, New Zealand. Dimensions (Approximately Maximum) 3 1/4 “X 1 3/16 †X 1/3 “Inches 83 X 30 X 8 Mms 1.45 Ozs, 41 Gms, 205 cts Made in New Zealand by New Zealand Carver in New Zealand Greenstone! Toki is an adze used for carving wood; this is lashed with braided black cord in a style unique to NZ. The carvers developed a style of wearing this around the neck so their prized possession (wood carving tool) will not be misplaced. Do not buy cheap imitations and do not pay exorbitant prices (for generic and not well finished stuff) too! Contrary to the claims (by dealers who wish to sell their NZ nephrite at exorbitant prices) all nephrite from all over the world has been similarly invaluable for many cultures for thousands of years. Last photo is of the carver himself, taken when he came to visit me to hand over his latest carvings at Charlie's studio! My auctions offer the range, choice and reasonable prices too!
