Between 1894 and 1907, the people of London could witness one of the most sensational landmarks in the area - The Great Wheel. This was a larger version of the wheel built for the world's Columbian exhibition held in Chicago in 1893. The wheel was demolished in 1907, the exhibition having suffered a decline after the First World War. At this time an ever-increasing amount of space was given to outdoor entertainment on a large scale, including sport." They were printed as postcard style cards with a photograph on the front and an informative note printed across the reverse about the subject of the picture. The pictures published were reproductions of postcards, magazine and newspaper photographs and advertising posters.
