Description

I am offering for bid a classic page of ORIGINAL ART featuring the talents of the late ALEX TOTH, along with inker TERRY AUSTIN, from a 1980's SUPERMAN ANNUAL, as published by DC COMICS! I purchased this art during a charity auction at a Houston convention back in the mid-80's. Mr. Austin was present at this convention, and was gracious enough to sign it for me. The piece measures 11 1/2 inches wide by 16 inches lengthwise. There is a '14' circled in the upper rightcorner, but the actual page number in the lower right corner indicates that this saw publication as page '11'.This page depicts sportscaster Steve Lombard making a fool out of Clark Kent, to impress the giggly blondhe is trying to impress. Clark turns the tables on him, and Lombard winds up tumbling to the floor overhis own shoe laces. The main reason I enjoyed this art? The classic three-panel sequence at the bottom;where Lombard ponders "Where on earth did that four-eyed wimp disappear to now?", while Clark racesdown the hall, cracks open the door to an empty elevator shaft, and emerges from the Daily Planet asSUPERMAN; in response to emergency sirens. Love it. This art is from SUPERMAN ANNUAL #9, published in 1983. As stated above; I believe this to bepage 11 from that annual. (Could also be 14, since the 11 on the art has a blue line through it...a correction?) This page of Alex Toth/Terry Austin art is in great shape for its age...slightly yellow, a very light curl at thetop; even less at the bottom; indicating that it MAY have been rolled at some point in the past BEFORE Ipurchased it. There is a 'krink' on the left edge of the page on the very left edge of the art, across Clark'slower leg. There are also a pair of 'paste-overs'...a new 'Daily Planet' globe was pasted in; and the word'suction' was pasted in, as well. (That's how Clark tangled Lombard's shoe strings.) There is also a blueline on the right edge across the bottom right panel; indicating where the repair needed to be made to thePlanet globe. Collectors should keep in mind that a page of ORIGINAL ART is a unique collectible...there is onlythis one, and that is it. If you have any other questions regarding this page of Toth/Austin original art, please contact me through theeBay mail system. This item will ship flat protected between two pieces of sturdy corregated cardboard lined with kraftpaper; then packed inside another shipping box. Check my feedback, and bid with confidence! I am starting the bid for this classic piece of original art featuring SUPERMAN, the MAN OF STEEL(only in one panel, sadly) as drawn by the legendary ALEX TOTH and TERRY AUSTIN at a super-stealLOW price of $9.99 (with a modest reserve). I can't imagine original TOTH art turns up very often;so take advantage of this opportunity and get your bids in NOW! Good luck!
