Some have a Rhodium finish, which does not mean they are new, older charms sometimes have it as well although Rhodium use was diminished during WWII. I do not clean any of my charms... I leave them in the condition in which I find them as I think they are more special that way. You are then able to shine them up or not, depending on how you like them!
