Description

These opera glasses have the Olympic 5-ring logo in a raised pattern encircling the top and bottom of the bodies and also raised figures all around depicting outdoor sports: runner, hurdler, figure skater, diver, javelin thrower and what looks like a shot putter. The words “Made in Occupied Japan” are engraved on one of the frames. They are believed to be more of a souvenir item as the mechanism is somewhat loose and there is only slight magnification. It is surmised they these were made for the 1952 Olympics as Occupied Japan items were discontinued in 1952 and Japan was not invited to the 1948 Olympics. Although not very functional they are attractive and except for some tarnish around the eyepieces they are like new and very decorative.
