Old Aladdin Hotel Casino Las Vegas Postcard Mint Click on any photo for a larger image vintage postcard from the Aladdin Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada it shows the beautiful old entrance of the Aladdin at night Some Aladdin triva: in 1962, New York toy manufacturer Edwin Lowe opened an English Tudor-style motel named the Tally-Ho and tried to operate without a casino. the motel lasted 10 months and reopened in 1964 as the King’s Crown. Milton Prell, who built the Sahara, bought it in 1966 for $19 million, put in a casino, expanded and remodeled, and renamed it the Aladdin. the Aladdin resort faced financial and legal problems when mob figures from St. Louis, Detroit and Tokyo were found to have had their fingers in the till. the Aladdin could not match the Flamingo or Dunes for entertainment as they did not have the advertising or the entertainment budget the big guys had. the Aladdin did have mob influence and was a major topic of conversation for La Cosa Nostra members meeting in a Detroit steakhouse, wiretapped by federal authorities. the hotel was extending comps to mob bosses from St. Louis and Kansas City, but the corruption ran deeper than free rooms and meals. four mobsters who had bilked the hotel of $250,000 in 1969 received prison terms. later it came to light that Detroit bail bondsman Charles Goldfarb and James Tamer (Aladdin's Entertainment Director), were running the resort on behalf of Detroit and St. Louis mobs. Jackie Mason was the opening act when the Aladdin. Soon after the opening performance at the Aladdin that Jackie Mason was "spoken to" by some of Frank Sinatra’s "people". It seems that during the Jackie Mason show, Jackie made fun of Sinatra and his "child-bride" Mia Farrow. Frank didn’t like that and Jackie Mason didn’t take a friendly warning seriously. He ended up with a broken jaw and cheekbone … and the references to Mia Farrow were dropped from the rest of his performances at the Aladdin. the Aladdin opened just 4 months before Caesars Palace. Once Caesars opened, the slippery downhill slide began for the Aladdin. Condition: Excellent. Check out my other items! Check my ebay for more vintage Las Vegas collectibles.
