OFFSHORE PIRATE RADIO BROADCASTTHE BIG L -- RADIO LONDONDJ:  CHUCK BLAIR & PAUL KAYEDATE OF BROADCAST:  11 AUGUST, 1967RIR #328 This CD is from an actual recording uncut and unedited of Offshore Pirate Radio Station -- Radio London.  Outside of Radio Caroline, Radio London was probably the most famous Offshore Pirate Radio Station in History.  This CD which is over an hour in length features a broadcast from 1967 off of the old U.S. Navy surplus Minesweeper in 1967, it's conversion to a transmitting Radio Station and studio.  You will hear the actual music and advertisements and news and dedications are also included in ths fascinating CD.  There are also several rare tracks of mid 60's Rock bands including "Chocolate Wristband" and "Sunshine Factory" and many others.  Listen to this fascinating Radio London's broadcast that attempts to prove that Commercial Radio can be a viable asset to the United Kingdom and should be recongnised as such.  Why Pirate Radio??:   In the mid  1960's -- The BBC was the main source of Radio in the United Kingdom.  Though an excellent source -- and a very well run organization.  They lacked greatly coverage of Pop music at the time.  The younger set wanted to hear Pop music and there was a viable market for pop commercial radio, but was not allowed at the time inside Great Britain.  So, offshore stations popped up like Radio Caroline and The Big L - Radio London.  And these 'radio station' ships with there floating studios would sail into International waters just off the coast of the UK and play the Pop Music of the time and were very popular and relied on commercials for income.  Just like commercial radio today.    Here is what you will hear in this broadcast that is over 75 minutes long!  1.   Radio London....where you're hearing things...2.   Cigar tobacco cigarettes --Revolution brand?  Great advertisement3.   "Sweet Georgia Fame?"   song   by Blossom Perry4.   School of Computer Programming advertisement5.   Juicy Fruit jingle advertisement6.   News Service:   Radio London's exact position is announced;   Nigeria report;   Border troublein Hong Kong;   Problems with "colored imigration to Britain";   Report on a flooded road;   Weather.7.   The Strawberry Children   "Love Years Coming"  song8.   DJ relates to his audience and thanks listener for a letter9.   Peter Stiversans (sp?) cigarettes advertisement10.
