You are bidding on a 8 x 10 black and white photograph of the Royal Canadian Navy Helicopter Destroyer HMCS St Laurent which served from 1955 to 1974. The St Laurent , began her life on 22 November 1950 at the Canadian Vickers shipyards in Montreal. She was launched on 20 November 1951 and commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy on 29 October 1955 as a Destroyer (DD) . She was converted into a Helicopter Destroyer (DDH) in 1963 which saw the suppression of her after twin 3 inch mount and one of her Limbo mortar launchers to make way for a helicopter platform and hanger. The Canadian invented variable depth sonar and beartrap helicopter hauldown systems were added later. As a cost saving measure ST Laurent did not under the DELEX upgrade and paid off 14 June 1974. Unwilling to die at the Brownsville Texas breakers she sank in tow off Cape Hatteras on 12 January 1980. Photograph one is an undated 8 x 10 black and white photograph and shows an overall waterline starboard bow view. Item 2 is a ** BONUS ** full length 39 inch ( 99 cm ) cap tally.
