Rare Solid Silver Gilt & Glass Ecclesiastical or Holy Water Bottle by A.R.M & Co Ltd date 1944 a.imagelink {color:#000000;} a:hover.imagelink {color:#000000;} a:visited.imagelink {color:#00A8A8;} a.imagelink img.auctionimage { border: 2px solid #000000; } a:visited.imagelink img.auctionimage { border: 2px solid #00A8A8; } The outer case of the bottle measures approximately 1 1/2 inches or 38 mm in length from top to bottom and is 1 3/8 inches or 36 mm across. It is made from solid silver with a gilt or gold plated interior in a circular shape with a twist lock lid that has a Christian cross in the center of a plannished or hammer finished background, the silver outer case contains a clear glass jar that has its original lid as photographed, it would have been filled with holy water and used by a member of the clergy whilst visiting his/her parishioners. The bottle or jar has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or monogram and the underside has been impressed with a full set of English solid silver hallmarks that read as follows,A.R.M & Co Ltd - Lion Passant - Leopard Head - IA.R.M & Co Ltd is the sponsors or makers mark, the Lion Passant is the mark of English solid sterling silver, the Leopard Head is the mark of the London assay office and the letter I is the date letter for 1944.The condition is Excellent with No Dents, No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs of any kind, the internal glass is in perfect condition, the lid opens with ease and closes tightly, the hallmark is clearly legible although as the ecclesiastical bottle is used it does have some minor wear as well as the signs of age that are to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss.
