Description

This is an especially fine 205 million year old reptile tooth found on the surface recently after it was exposed by heavy rains. The last 2 pictures show the tooth as I found it in the field. It is from the quadrupedal reptile, Postosuchus sp, a basal Archosaur, Rauisuchian. This was one of the top predators of it's day. This large tooth measures a bit over 1 1/8" in length. The preservation is excellent, with beautiful dark shiny enamel & crisp serrations, with just a touch of tip wear. This tooth should be very useful for comparative study or for a collection. It was found in upper Triassic deposits (Norian age), in the Bull Canyon Formation, in Quay County, New Mexico near Tucumcari. There is a very low opening bid & no reserve. Good luck on this unusual specimen!!!
