This is a rare Judaic gem, made in Israel in the early 1950’s. The plate is crafted with a traditional holy Friday night theme – a ritual ceremony of a women lighting the Shabbat Candles: Looking into the window of a Jewish home one can see behind the window’s curtain, a young woman, blessing the Sabbath candles. The Candles are set in a candleholder. The Sabbath table is covered with table cloth which has hanging folds. Also on the table lying a Kiddush cup on a saucer. The women’s face expression and movement position transfer nobility. Above the scene embossed “Israelâ€, underneath embossed in Hebrew “Shabbat Kodesh†(Holy Sabbath). The plate’s margin look like fluid drops, adding to the plate an elegant look. There are some shallow scratches on the plate. No dents. On the back of the plate there is a loop for a hanger. The triangle wire loop is missing. This detailed Judaic piece of art, aims to value the Jewish women’s “Mizvaâ€-task of welcoming the Shabbat. Marks: On the back of the plate exists an orange Israel tax label, from the 1950’s. No maker mark found. However, It’s typical to the Bezalel metal art prevalent during the Israel state establishment. Possible PalBell, or Zel Zion or some other Israli metal producer. Age: Early 1950’s.
