This shell measures 8 1/2 inches long and 7 inches wide. It is extremely rare to find an abalone shell this thick and wide. Most are farm raised today. This shell comes from the Pacific Ocean off the Northern California coast of USA. This particular shell was harvested over 30 years ago when the colors were still vibrant. The pictures do not do it justice. The inside is a brilliant rainbow iridescence and the outside is clear of barnacles. This shall has been partially cleaned. Note that in one of the pictures we wet the outside of the shell to accent the true red beauty. A rare find. Free of any cracks. The shell pictured is the shell you will receive. It flourished there until 2001 when the family moved to southwest New Mexico, where the business continued to grow. A friendlier climate and a yearning to return to the ocean brought the business ultimately to northern California. It is owned and operated by the senior patriarch of the Young family and his son Ron, granddaughter Caiti, daughter Kim and her husband Richard. A unique eye for presenting an interesting product, an outstanding customer empathy, and reasonable pricing are the hallmarks of this enterprise, which deals in antiques, collectibles, and many other unusual, hard-to-find items. We are happy you could join us here and invite you to navigate among our other online offerings. Contact us with critique and comment.
