We acquired all Flight related items from an auction. Al Lloyd was an Engineer for the Seattle Washington Boeing Plant. He was editor of the Boeing AIRLINER magazine for 11 years. He served 9 years in the Civil Air Patrol as a Cadet & Senior programs as instructor in numerous technical classes Al authored numerous magazine articles on specific aircraft in detail & scale series & wrote a book entitle Liberator. He worked with three WWII veterans on a 75-yr. History of the 2nd Bombardment Group/Wing from WWI to 1994. He was featured on the History channel on the B-24 & Discovery Channel on SAC All of the photo's & paperwork we are listing was used in Alwyn Lloyd's research library for the many books and articles he wrote. Please look in my Stores for other Al Lloyd Photos, Paper Items etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION: This is a SAC SPOT PROMOTION PROGRAM ITS RISE AND DEMISE, from the Office of the Historian headquarters Strategic Air Command. It is a Historical Study. Envisioned as a reward for outstanding crew performance 7 limited to about 15 percent of the SAC crew force, the spot promotion program was originated in 1949 by General Cutis E. LeMay, Commander in Chief of SAC. It was continued under his successors General Thomas S. Power and General John Ryan until late 1965; when it was abolished primarily because of the war in SE Asia. Throughout its existence, the program operated in an atmosphere of opposition & controversy. It was never accepted throughout the air Force, especially by those who were not eligible for its benefits. This historical study attempts to show why the program originated and how it was operated and maintained though out 16 years of controversial existence. 1 Oct. 1978. 43 pages.
