MAGNIFICENT NEW 38"(long) x 32"(tall) x 13"(wide)" WOOD HANDCRAFTED MODEL TALL SHIP FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ONLY. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS WILL RECEIVE A SHIPPING DISCOUNT, PLEASE CONTACT ME. The model is handcrafted from scratch by skilled craftsmen and built according to scale of the original ship, through original plans or pictures using plank on frame construction. The hull is joined by multi-pieces of dry thin wooden bar together. Inside the hull a special glue is used which helps thin wooden bars stay close to one another and not split, crack or twist when the weather changes. The construction method is entirely by hand and it takes hundreds of man hours to finish. Only the highest quality woods like rosewood, ebony, blackwood, mahogany and teak are used in building all my model ships. In general, this is how the following woods are used:Ebony (for blocks and small details) English Sycamore (for the hull)Rosewood (for the hull)Blackwood (for the hull)Mahogany (for the masts, squares, crow nests)Cherrywood (for the deck)Canons, muskets, anchors and other tiny details are made of metal (for decoration)Sails and rigging lines are made of linen. The flag is made from material not plastic. DO NOT CONFUSE WITH LESS EXPENSIVE MODELS OF THE SAME NAME. THIS IS A PREMIUM QUALITY MODEL SHIP. THE CHRISTIAN RADICH - BUILT IN 1937 The Christian Radich is a 241 foot, 676 ton, full-rigged ship built in 1937 in Sandefjord, Norway. She was built for training sailors for the Norwegian merchant navy. In 1938 she sailed to New York for the World Fair and in 1939 she sailed back to Norway. At that time she was placed under the control of the Norwegian Navy. During WWII she was seized by the Germans near Oslo and was used by them as a submarine depot ship. She was then taken to Germany in 1943 and in 1945 she was found by the Allies at Flensburg Germany in a capsized condition and without her masts or equipment. She was towed back to Norway and rebuilt in the same yard where she was built in 1937. She resumed her school ship operations in 1947 and in 1956-1957 she went on a long trans-Atlantic cruise during which the wide-screen Cinerama film "Windjammer" was shot aboard. In the 1970's she also played a leading role in "The Onedin Line" television series. In 1976 she took part in the American Bicentennial trans-Atlantic Tall Ships Race. After a major refit and accommodation modernization in 1983 she took part in the Quebec Tall Ships Parade in 1984. In 1986 she went to New York marking the Centennial and re-dedication of the Statue of Liberty. In 1992 she took part in the Columbus Regatta, and currently takes part in tall ship events throughout the world. From 1999 and on, the ship has been on the charter market as well as sailing with paying trainees to foreign ports on summer trips, participating in the Cutty Sark Tall Ships' Race and large sail events in various European ports. She won on corrected time in Class A and overall the tall ship in total in 2007,and became the only class A vessel that crossed the finish line.
