FULLY HALLMARKED BUT CANNOT READ THE MAKER - MAY START WITH A G. (prob. GK&S) London, 1911. MEASURES 40 X 23MM AT ITS WIDEST POINTS. FOR YOUR INFORMATION I HAVE INCLUDED A PHOTO OF THE WHOLE COLLECTION OF MEDALS TO THIS MAN BEING SOLD IN 18 LISTINGS. THIS IS ONE OF A GROUP OF 22 TEMPERANCE MEDALS PRESENTED TO BTY. SGT. MAJOR BROOKES. 17 ARE UN-NAMED AND I AM SELLING THEM ON THEIR OWN - This is one of them. THE REMAINING 5 MEDALS ARE NAMED AND I AM SELLING THEM AS ONE LOT IN A SEPERATE LISTING - THE REASON FOR DOING THIS IS THAT - IN MY OPINION - THE NAMED MEDALS ARE HISTORICALLY INTERESTING AND THE PEOPLE WHO BUY THE NAMED MEDALS WILL PROB. ALREADY HAVE, IN THEIR COLLECTION, EXAMPLES OF SOME OF THE SINGLE UN-NAMED MEDALS. I BOUGHT THESE MEDALS SOME YEARS AGO IN SCOTLAND AND KEPT THEM IN MY OWN MEDAL COLLECTION. THIS MAN - Battery Sgt. Major Brooke IS MENTIONED IN AN ARTICLE ON TEMPERANCE MEDALS WHICH APPEARED SOME TIME AGO IN THE O.M.R.S. MAGAZINE OF WHICH I HAVE A COPY. THE PART CONCERNING THIS MAN READS AS FOLLOWS "A certain Bty. Sgt. Maj. Brookes ( I think the S is an error) continued as a visiting lecturer to branches in the U.K. until C.O.'s objected on the grounds that his activities were a reflection on the characters of their men". IT ALSO STATES THAT "in the end Brookes had nil audiences and gave up whether from old age or frustration is not recorded". . NEW POSTAL CHARGES FOR U.K. ONLY ARE ...for PACKET POST (100gms and over 25mm THICK) - £1.55 for 2nd class with proof of posting... £2.50 for RECORDED or £5.00 for SPECIAL DELIVERY. Due to the way I wrap and pack most items will be regarded by the Post Office to be PACKET POST . AIRMAIL to U.S.and Australia is £2.15 or I.S.F. is £6.15.
