Missile Badge: The Missile Badge is a military decoration of the United States Air Force which was first created in the 1960s. The badge recognizes those commissioned officers and enlisted personnel of the US Air Force who have qualified as ICBM silo personnel and have been trained in the launching of landbased nuclear weapons under the direction of the National Command Authority. Originally known as the Missileman Badge, the Missile Badge later became known as the Missilier Badge or more informally the Pocket Rocket and is still often referred to by this name. Today’s U.S. Air Force badges are are all made with a mirror finish unlike this version. This badge has "KREW†and “GI" hallmarks on the back. It has two pins on the back with two clips (AKA frogs) to hold the badge to clothing. It comes in a sealed military issue package with the national stock number (NSN) and the name of the badge on the card. Unlike the badges that are bought from the bases Military Clothing Sales this one comes from base supply and issuing system directly (goverrnment issue) to the troops. Also, on this card is the date this badge was made 7/84 (July 1984). It is in mint condition in a sealed plastic. NOTE: This badge was made prior to political correctness and has the name Missileman written on the government card stock that holds the badge.
