Description

Susan Crane Handmade Black Folk Art Sock Doll This doll is believed to be from at least the 1950s. It was found about 10 years ago at an estate sale in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the historic family home of a longtime University of Alabama professor. It is entirely hand stitched and is approximately 12” long. The sock appears to be stuffed with cotton batting. A hand lettered label with the name “Susan Crane” is stitched to the doll’s bottom.  As can be seen from the photos, this doll has been given much play and love over the years. There are several “runs” and holes on the front that can probably be repaired. She appears to have had hair and braids, most of which is missing. The bow around the neck is an old shoelace. The arms were made short and do not have missing portions. If you have any questions concerning this doll or its condition, please contact me. I’m selling her as is.
