This is a combination rig consisting of the Swiss Mod. 1878 short sword together with the cruciform bayonet Mod. 1892/1900. The short sword is marked Gebr. Weyersberg Solingen with the Swiss cross. The cruciform bayonet is the bayonet converted from the Vetterli socket bayonet and used on the Schmidt-Rubin K-1911. These rigs were carried by pioneers, artillery and horse transport troops. This rig is in good condition overall. The bayonet shows some slight pitting. Leather is in good to very good condition with solid seams. The frog is original for this rig and is dated 1904. A rig like this sold at the Poulin auction this spring for $1,100.
