THOMAS HARDY’S ALE – UNOPENED BOTTLE - COLLECTABLE This bottle is labelled “Bottle J 18726 1 Sept 1979” Brewed and bottled by Eldridge Pope and Co Ltd. Dorchester Brewery, Dorset The text on the front label is “In “The Trumpet-Major” Hardy wrote of Dorchester’s strong beer “It was of the most beautiful colour that the eye of an artist in beer could desire; full in body, yet brisk as a volcano; piquant, yet without a twang; luminous as an autumn sunset; free from streakiness of taste but finally, rather heady” The text on the rear label is This beer will improve if kept at 55OF and will last at least 25 years.  If the bottle is disturbed before drinking stand for 48 hours to allow natural sediment to settle and then pour carefully.
